Andrew Essig

Owner/CEO

Andrew Essig started the gym after a few frustrating years in personal training. He didn’t play sports in high school or college, but armed with a business degree and strong imagination quickly saw the faults in a typical “globo gym” setting. Personal training was expensive, hard to sell and a challenge to motivate.
Andrew was introduced to CrossFit while working in a small personal training studio and was instantly hooked. Seeing it as a way to help many people at once for less cost and more results, he set to work on a business plan. With some help from friends and family, CrossFit Gambit was launched in 2009 and has been forging elite fitness ever since.

Kelley Jackson Essig

Co-Owner, Head Coach, Head of Programming

I started CrossFit in 2009 after being introduced to it by Andrew. I took my L1 to help him open up Gambit and was forever changed. I moved to Boston, MA in 2014 to work at Reebok CrossFit One, which was one of the premier affiliates at the time. I competed at the CrossFit Games as an individual (2014, 2015) on a team (2016) and in the masters 35-39 division (2021). I have also been part of the Demo team (2017, 2022). I joined CrossFit Headquarters Seminar Staff in 2018 and have traveled the world teaching CrossFit. I love coaching because it provides a platform that gives people a path to change their lives! My favorite workout is “Fran” because I love a lightweight barbell, pull-ups and getting into the “dark place”.

Shawn Crocker

General Manager, Client Success Manager

I found CrossFit in search of improving my strength and conditioning for competitive jiu-jitsu. I had originally reached out to a local Olympic weightlifting coach, hoping to get some 1:1 work on my technique and was put off by the process for signing up. I decided to take an On Ramp at a local affiliate and, in a few months, took the L1 and started my career coaching. I love having the trust and opportunity to positively impact others’ lives and their physical autonomy and confidence. Amanda and Nancy have always been my favorite benchmark tests, and tell us most of what we need to know about an individual’s fitness capacity.

Joel Laney

Coach, Facility Manager

I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2018. I love coaching because I enjoy helping others do something that they did not think they were capable of – seeing athletes achieve a personal milestone is incredible. My favorite movement would either be a handstand walk or a ring muscle up.

Suzanne Stahlman

Coach

I started CrossFit in the winter of 2012 with my sister-in-law to “stay in shape” while it was too cold to workout outside and I fell in love with it. The workout variety, the people, and the continual challenge of it all was and is addictive and I’m ok with this addiction in my life. I now continue to push myself to stay in shape for my job as a firefighter and so I can be 80 years old and still deadlift 200 pounds 🙂 I love coaching because I get to see and help people do things they never thought possible from jumping onto a box, kicking into a handstand for the first time, getting that first pull up, or using a weight they never thought they could in a workout. It’s all super cool to see and be a part of. Coaching also makes me a better athlete and person and I’m thankful it’s a part of my life. My favorite movement is a hang power clean or a heavy dumbbell snatch and favorite workout is Grace or any workout that involves a barbell and grunt work more than cardio

Dan Ragon

Coach

I have been doing CrossFit for nearly 10 years. I love coaching because it allows me to interact with so many different members that I never would have as a regular member. My favorite workout would probably be the benchmark workout Nancy and my favorite movements are probably deadlifts or squat cleans.

John Gramlich

Coach

Hello! I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2017. I started because I was close to 400 pounds and uncomfortable, unhealthy, and needed to make the change. The community I experienced joining a CrossFit gym is contagious and made me stay and want to continually improve. And that’s exactly why I love coaching so much – to be able to encourage others to move comfortably, confidently, and be proud of what their bodies are capable of, is the most rewarding experience. Plus, I love having conversations around individual’s goals and how I can support them in their journey! My favorite movement would have to be wall balls, any olympic weightlifting, and handstand walks, for sure!

Cori Anderson

Coach

I started CrossFit in 2013 having never been inside a gym before, outside of a volleyball court. Took one class and was INSTANTLY hooked. Once I found Gambit, my love of fitness grew, and I became a coach in 2018. I love getting to connect with people and truly impact their lives through health and fitness, and have some laughs along the way. My favorite movement/workout…truthfully anything that doesn’t include squatting.

Clayton Adams

Coach

I have been doing CrossFit since July of 2017. I love the constantly varied nature and how there is always a movement pattern to improve or a new skill to learn. The best part about coaching is challenging people to tackle something hard and seeing them have more success than thought possible. And the connections with members is what brings me back each class, shout-out morning crew! My favorite movements are burpee box jump overs, wall balls, and running.

Sam Gavic

Coach

Brian Sullivan

Coach

I started Crossfit in 2014 after spending 7 years doing endurance competitions. Crossfit has been an anchor of my adult life. It’s given me something to scratch my competitive itch, and a social conduit while traveling and moving. I work in the snacking industry where there is a lot of travel required. Having crossfit has allowed me to stay fit while many in my industry steadily become less and less able to be healthy.

Sarah Birtch coach at Gambit Fitness

Sarah Birtch

Coach

I joined Gambit in August of 2019 and learned about CrossFit a few years earlier when a family friend opened her box. I trained there during the off seasons of rowing in college and fell in love with it! I absolutely love coaching at Gambit and being able to meet so many kind and hardworking people. The best part of coaching is getting to watch how empowering fitness can be and the class conquering tough workouts together. With a background in gymnastics, I love any workouts with handstand or wall walks!
